Public Safety students, after being unable to connect with an instructor to teach them an introduction to SCUBA diving class this year, used some of their fundraised money to build and donate planter boxes for the families at RAVE, the Ionia/Montcalm County shelter serving survivors of domestic violence. The boxes will give residents therapeutic activities to do, and will provide vegetables for them as well. Plant & Animal Sciences class also donated some of the plants from their plant sale, which just occurred at the MACC. Pictured is the AM Public Safety class with the boxes and RAVE staff. ... In this program, students spend time in local classrooms assisting teachers in one on one student work, managing small groups, and even whole class instruction. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in teaching, counseling, social work, or anyone who has an interest in working with children. Students have the opportunity to achieve their Child Development Associate or MI Youth Development Associate, leading to employment after graduation in a number of child-related settings.
